SOM CLASSIFICATION OF ELECTRIC FIELD STRENGTH DATA FROM BASE TRANSCEIVER STATIONS

Abstract

A competitive artificial neural network, which compresses information while conserving the most important topological and metric relationships of the primary data elements on the display refers to the self- organizing map (SOM). SOMs are veritable tools in organizing and visualizing complex data sets. Its ability to convert non-linear and complex statistical representations into simple forms makes it a handy tool for data analysts. Motivated by this characteristic, this research employed SOM in classifying electric field strength data from base transceiver stations (BTS). The classification was done based on the available data set gotten from some BTS in Edo State, Nigeria.
