Abstract

In this paper, a compartmental mathematical model for unemployment dynamics of skilled and unskilled individuals was studied and analysed. The coexistence steady state of the model was analysed and its local stability was established using linearization method and Routh-Hurwitz criteria. The model was found out to be locally asymptotically stable (LAS). The numerical results revealed that, both high rate of recruitment of unemployed individuals moving to employed class and newly created vacancies decreases both skilled and unskilled unemployed individuals. Hence, the study suggests that both public and private sectors should create vacancies to improve employment.
