Abstract


Deterioration of produced goods are function of time, demand, season, weather condition, and other environmental factors. An EPQ model for non-instantaneous deteriorating item in which holding on the cost varies with time was considered by [1]. These Authors explicitly set in deterioration immediately after production build-up period. However, in real life situation items like butter, bread, paints, cosmetics and so on, do not start deteriorating immediately after production period, unless if the life cycle of the product is reach or if it is exposed to high temperature, or the general proportion of the ingredients (inputs) is insufficient, in this regard, reliability (quality aassurance) of these items after production solely depends on external factors. In this paper, we developed an EPQ for delayed deteriorating items with external environmental factor and linear holding cost. Deterioration do not start immediately until after production build-up, shortages are not allowed, completely or partially deteriorating items are discarded. Numerical examples are given and sensitivity analysis were carry out to see the effects on some system parameters.
