THE CHARACTERIZATION OF THE RSA ALGORITHM

Abstract
This paper provides an overview of public-key cryptography, including its conceptual framework, and examined the RSA algorithm as one of the best cryptographic systems in use today. Beginning with an explanation of the RSA algorithm, three issues that are at the heart of the scheme were considered. These are encryption, decryption and key generation. The paper then demonstrated that confidentiality and sender-authentication can be achieved simultaneously with RSA as a public-key cryptographic system that ensures secure communication over networks. Some of the computational and cryptanalytical implications of RSA are also critically examined. In particular, the security of RSA, its strengths and vulnerabilities are analyzed. Novel solutions to overcome these vulnerabilities are also proposed. Finally, area of future research is highlighted.
