Abstract

The study used modified Prim algorithm for handling packets congestion at the router level by maintaining network stability. The nodes and vertexes represented routers and routes respectively. The broadcast method was added to assist the system to broadcast to all visited nodes whenever there is congestion; the queue method was employed to en-queuing and de-queuing packets at visited router. Experiments and evaluation were based on comparison of levels of congestion and packet losses using existing methods of Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) Cubic and Vegas with Modified Prim Algorithm (MPA). Results indicate that there were more packets acknowledged in the network with MPA than both Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) Cubic and Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) Vegas.
