Abstract

The coulomb potential describes the interaction of an electron with the charge distribution set up by all the other electrons. The periodic Anderson model is applied to 4 electrons on 4 sites with periodic boundary conditions.  We considered the coulomb interaction effect on the localized f-orbitals, Eσf. The number of electrons is taken to be one per site and the interactions between different sites are restricted to nearest neighbours.  The many body eigenvalues are calculated exactly using exact diagonalization technique.  We find that the ground state energy of the system decreases as the f-orbital shrinks due to the increasing coulombic interaction in the localized orbital. However hybridization enhances the ground state energy under any condition
