Abstract

The transportation problem is a special case of the general linear programming problem. This research work deals with shipment of products to 10 (ten) strategically locations in Nigeria From 5(five) sources and the approach we use in this transportation problem is by optimizing a shipping schedule that will minimize cost and maximize profit. The basic work of this particular form of linear optimization is directed to our main points using (7UP) Bottling Company as a case study and applying Northwest corner method that is less complexity to obtain the best initial feasible, optimal solution to the transportation problem. This work looked at the best way by which the company will minimize shipment cost.

Keywords: Transportation problem: Simplex method; Linear Programming problem, Optimization problem, Operation research and Optimal solution.
